Senate today, gave approval of N189 billion to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for the conduct of 2019 general elections.
Approval for the INEC budget was given after presentation of the chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation , Senator Danjuma Goje who said that the sum of the N189 billion needed for the 2019 elections should be vired from both recurrent and Capital expenditure of Special Intervention Programme captured in the service wide votes of 2017 Appropriation Act.
He explained that the Appropriation committee took into account the report of the Senate and House of Representatives Committee on INEC into consideration.
President Muhammadu Buhari had requested for the virement of N242 billion in a letter written to National Assembly.
