Nigeria at 58: ‘Restoring greatness my earnest dream’

1061

Nigeria is a country gifted with milk and honey by nature but gluttony and egocentricity have windswept God’s free gift. Our forefathers had a dream for an independent Nigeria. They fought colonization with so much enthusiasm. Many of them were geared up to pay the ultimate price.

Finally their dreams delivered the beautiful country the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This has proven that the world is ruled by dreamers, then why won’t I be a dreamer and see the beautiful tomorrow of our Nigeria, instead of  blaming the president, the governors, and all our leaders for some temporary misfortune of our country Nigeria, why won’t I dream like Joseph of old and see a Nigeria where graduate does not wait for government employment any longer but create employment, of a truth I dream of a Nigeria whereby our export is more than our import, I mean a Nigeria whereby we are a high rated producer and not a consumer.

I dream of a Nigeria where the idiom ‘Leaders of tomorrow,’ actually refers to the youths and not the old men and women in power. A Nigeria where public offices are seen as a privilege and not a do-or-die affair or a business center, I dream of a Nigeria where rumor of votes being sold like recharge card doesn’t exist.

I also dream of a country where governments will ensure that citizens have access to quality healthcare; and where the rich will utilize local hospitals rather than go abroad for medical treatments, for the locals would provide same quality healthcare as their counterparts anywhere in the world. I dream of a country where the rich invest in the health sector build world class hospitals rather than squander money to place adverts on obituaries of loved ones, most of who die because of the poor state of the Nigerian healthcare.

I dream of Nigeria where every Nigerian child has access to quality education; a country with some of the best universities in the world that parents will see as the first choice for their children. A country where the rich need not send their children abroad for education, rather than stay here for their education, a country where students study not just for certificate for employment, but for knowledge.

I dream of a united, steady and peaceful country, a Nigeria where racial, ethnic and religious militancy will be a thing of the history; and where there will be no root to reward ethnic and religious militants with reprieve and succulent government contracts. I will not stop, I will continue dreaming till my dream becomes a reality.

Thanks
