Three jostle for Ogun SDP governorship ticket

No fewer than three persons are now jostling for the Governorship ticket of the Ogun State Social Democratic Party ticket for the forthcoming 2019 elections.

Of the three, none is from the Ogun West Senatorial District which has been clamoring for the Governorship of the State.

The three aspirants were said to have obtained their forms and submitted in preparation form in preparation for the party primary slated for next month

The aspirants are;

Sina Kawonise, a journalist and Social Scientist is from Ago Iwoye in the Ijebu North Local Government of the State in Ogn East. A former member of the Editorial Board of the Nigerian Tribune, he was Commissioner for Information and Strategy in the Governor Olugbenga Daniel. He is the Editor in Chief of News Scroll.

Opeyemi Agbaje from Ogun East, a barrister at law is also a columnist with Business Day Newspapers. Former Senior Fellow/Lecturer and Head of Strategy, Entrepreneurship and Business Environment at Lagos Business Shool,  Agbaje is said to have over two decades in the Financial Sector.

Otunba Rotimi Paseda , a business man from Ogun East Senatorial District was the Governorship candidate of the Unity Party of Nigeria [UPN] in the 2015 election which was won by Governor Ibikunle Amosun.

State Organising Secretary of SDP, Mr. Alli Sulaiman Abiodun in a chat with New Dawn confirmed that the aspirants not only bought their forms but also assisted some party loyalists to obtain forms to contest for some offices in the primaries.

He explained that the National Secretariat of the party has given the States Chapters the discretion to conduct their primaries at any suitable date and time before the INEC deadline adding that October 3rdhas been fixed and that it would be by Direct Primary.

Mr. Abiodun lamented that aspirants from Yewa in the Ogun West who initially showed interest in contesting for the ticket did not obtain form to contest.

“You see the Yewa would be lamenting that they are being marginalized yet they always concentrate all their eggs in one basket [party].  Should our party now win, they would start another round of complaints and vain agitation.
