The members of Joint Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday kept silent on inclusion of card reader into Electoral act even as the Lawmakers began amendment of Electoral Act for fourth time.
Presidency had said that the National Assembly failed to include card reader into amendment forwarded to President Muhammad Buhari for ascent which Mr. President veto.
However, at the resumption of the Committee before the Lawmakers went into closed door session, hope of the Journalists at the meeting was dashed as the Lawmakers failed to talk about the inclusion of card reader into the Amendment sent to the Presidency.
Addressing Journalists before the closed door session, the Chairman of the Joint Panel , Suleiman Nazif said before the closed session, ” We are in the eyes of the storm and Nigerians are waiting to hear from us. We are trying to amend the Electoral Act for the fourth time. What we are doing is in the best interest of the nation. ”
The Chairman assured that the Committee will address journalists tomorrow about the Amendment of Electoral Act.
