Residents of Shasha/Akowonjo area of the Lagos metropolis have complained over heaps of refuse making life unbearable for them.
At the weekend, a refuse heap was noticed on Ogunrinde street junction along Shasha road, Akowonjo in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State and by Sunday morning it had tripled.
A shop owner in the area told New Dawn Metro how the development has halted business.
“We can’t open our shops to display our wares because of the stench,” she said, calling on relevant agencies to swing into action before an epidemic breaks out.

“We are tired of the refuse. We may not be able to come to the shop again and this is definitely killing our livelihood,” she groaned.

Youths in the area on Sunday also complained they can no longer play on the street for fear of contracting diseases.
“We don’t know where the refuse comes from. On Friday it was just about three bags of waste we noticed but by Saturday unknown people came overnight to load more, now this is Sunday evening, see how high it is. If care is not taken by Monday night Ogunrinde street would have been closed down. We can’t play on our own street again. So sad,” a youth in the area lamented.
The residents however call on management of Vision Scape and Governor Akinwumi Ambode to swing into action.
“We have called on the CDA and even Vision Scape to come and see to this ugly development. It was never like this during PSP period when wastes were evacuated promptly,” another resident said.
