Senator representing Kaduna North senatorial district in the National Assembly, Suleiman Hunkuyi, in Friday declared his intention to contest the governorship seat of Kaduna State.
This declaration was made during a PDP townhall meeting of eleven local governments in Angwan Wakili, southern Kaduna .
Hunkuyi who recently defected from the ruling All Progressive Congress to the Peoples’ Democratic Party vowed to kick out Governor of Kaduna state, Nasir Elrufai.
While declaring his long time ambition to rule the state, Hunkuyi called on all present that “it is time to kill this change in Kaduna state”.
He added that his decision to contest the governorship election stems from the people’s desire to chart a new direction for the state.
Accordingly, eleven out of twenty three local governments present, unanimously resolved to support the lawmaker in the 2019 governorship elections.
Hunkuyi, a power broker in Kaduna North worked for the emergence of Governor El-Rufai before both fell out .
It could also be recalled that the former governor of Kaduna state, Ahmed Makarf rode on the back of Hunkuyi who is a grassroot politician to emerge as the governor of the state in 1999.
The lecturer, turned politician also fell out with Makarf in 2003, due to his governorship ambition.
The criss between Hunkuyi and El-Rufai fester when the his residence was demolished by the state government.
