Michael Oyedokun, Teacher beheaded by Terrorists
The family of Michael Oyedokun, a mathematics teacher beheaded by suspected Ansaru terrorists in Oyo State, has announced a farewell service in his honour despite the failure to recover his remains.
The service will hold on October 30 at 11am at Eliz Event Centre, behind the Federal Road Safety Corps office in the High School area of Ogbomoso.
A family member, Oluwabukola, who uses the Instagram handle @its_boukeey, announced the ceremony in a post, saying the family had waited for months to recover his remains.
“151 days since we lost you, Olugbade Michael Oyedokun. For days, we waited and hoped we would find you, bring you home, and give you the farewell you deserved. Sadly, we are yet to find your body,” she wrote.

She said the family had decided to hold the service because the absence of his remains should not prevent them from honouring his life.
“Though we waited for the closure we desperately wanted, we cannot allow the absence of your body to mean the absence of a farewell,” she added.
Mr Oyedokun, a vice-principal of Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle, was among 46 people, including 39 pupils and seven teachers, abducted when terrorists attacked three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on May 15.
The schools were Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle and L.A. Primary School, Ahoro-Esinle.
The principal of Community High School, Rachael Alamu, who was also abducted, said Oyedokun was beheaded on the second day of captivity. She also said another teacher, Adesiyan Adegboye, was killed.
The other abductees were released on July 10 after spending 56 days in captivity. Adegboye’s body was recovered, but Oyedokun’s remains have yet to be found.
His family has appealed to the authorities to intensify efforts to recover his remains.
During a recent trial of suspected members of Ansaru at the Federal High Court in Abuja, a prosecution witness testified that the group had the backing of Al-Qaeda and abducted the schoolchildren and teachers to demand the release of 30 of its leaders and members held in prison.
Oyedokun is survived by his wife and two sons.
