Says only Returning officers can declare election result
National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC,Professor Joash Amupitan has disclosed that collection of voters card will commence tomorrow October 9.
He disclosed this Thursday in the keynote address delivered om his behalf by Professor Ayobami Lawal,Lagos Resident Electoral Commissioner, at the 10th Annual Conference of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers,GOCOP themed, 2027 Elections: Trust, Transparency and Shared Responsibility.
He appealed to the media especially rally online publishers to publish only verified results by the INEC.
Speaking further he said that only constitutionally recognised Returning Officer can declare the result of election .
In response to the submission of Chairman of the occassion, Dr Olisa Agbakoba,he disagreed with his submission that unrecognized persons can declare result saying that unauthorised petsons declare result will lead to chaos.
Said he,”Only constitutionally recognised returning officers can declare election result.
Speaking further, he disclosed that the BIVAS to be used for the elections has been upgraded for the smooth conduct of the election.
In his contribution,Mr Lanre Arogundade,Chairman of International Press Centre,IPC asked political parties to make contributions to the preparedness of and engagement with INEC as part of their oversight function.
