Federal High Court in Abuja has remanded Adeniyi Adeyemi, alleged Director General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), in Kuje prison pending the hearing and determination of his bail application.

Justice Mohammed Umar gave the order on Wednesday after Mr Adeyemi pleaded not guilty to an eight-count charge of conspiracy, forgery and impersonation brought against him and two others who are currently at large.

Adeyemi was brought before the court by a female police officer attached to the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre after several failed attempts to arraign him.Nigerian talent spotlight

The charges, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025, were filed by the Federal Government following Adeyemi’s arrest in Osogbo, Osun State.

The prosecution alleged that Adeyemi and the two other suspects, identified as Femi and Anu, conspired to forge official documents, including a purported presidential appointment letter, State House letterheads and documents relating to the establishment of the PFIPC.

The prosecution also alleged that Adeyemi presented himself as the Director General of the PFIPC, an offence punishable under Section 179 of the Penal Code.

Adeyemi has denied the allegations.

The police said investigations led to the recovery of correspondence between the purported council and government institutions. Investigators also traced 34 bank accounts linked to Adeyemi, including nine allegedly opened in the names of purported government agencies.

Adeniyi Adeyemi’s arraignment had been delayed on several occasions due to reasons including requests by his lawyers, his absence from court and the judge’s official engagements.

On July 14, Justice Umar issued a bench warrant for his arrest after Adeyemi failed to appear for another scheduled arraignment.

The police later arrested him in Osun State after tracing him to a hideout.

His lawyer Genesis Francis had told the court that Adeyemi failed to appear because he feared for his life. He also said his client had written an open letter to President Bola Tinubu, expressing concerns about his safety.

Adeyemi remained in police custody until his arraignment on Wednesday.
