Bayelsa Police Rescue Woman After Months In Captivity, Arrest Neighbour

Operatives of the Bayelsa State Police Command have rescued a 33-year-old woman, Sarah Chinedu Ama, who was abducted from her business premises in Amasoma, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.
The victim, who was abducted on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, was rescued from a rainforest in Ogbonbiri community following actionable intelligence.

Briefing journalists at the Command Headquarters in Yenagoa, the State Commissioner of Police, Saka Adewale, said operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, after intelligence gathering, deployed gunboats through the Otuan River, where they spent three days searching the riverine and forest areas before locating the victim.
The Police Commissioner also announced the arrest of a 43-year-old man, Perebodei Denmark, a neighbour of the victim, in connection with the kidnap.
Items recovered from the suspect include the victim’s POS machine, a mobile phone, two expended assault rifle ammunition, three live cartridges, UBA and OPay ATM cards, as well as items suspected to be ring charms.
The Police say the suspect is cooperating with investigators to facilitate the arrest of other members of the gang who are still at large.
