The Black Queens of Ghana Thursday night dashed the hopes of the Women Elephants of Ivory Coast to fly their flags at the 2027

World women’s football final with a 2-1 Win in the one leg window match in Casablanca.

 

Ines Konan raised hopes that the Ivoriens will have the ticket when she scored from the penalty spot in the 4th minute but Princess Marfo cancelled that goal advantage with an equalizer in the 59th minute.

 

Mario got a header from a corner kick only for Chantelle Boye-Hiorkah to cause a penalty in the box and Josephine Bonsu neatly tucked it in for goal number 2 at the 72nd minute for Ghana to move forward for an inter Confederation slot.

 

Ghana had lost to Malawi 1-2 in the quarterfinals beaten Cape Verde 2-0, lost to Cameroon 0-1 and played 1-1 with Mali at the group stages while Ivory Coast lost to Algeria at the Quarters, beat Burkina Faso 4-1, drew 2-2 with South Africa and won over Tanzania 2-1 at the group stages.

IFlying Eagles Fly Past Young Elephants Into WAFU U20 Finals 4-3 on penalties.

 

Both sides had met eight times with Ivory coast winning four times, Ghana won twice and there were two draws. Most of their matches were friendly. They met for pre WAFCON friendly on 14th July 2026 and Ghana won by a lone goal; played 3-3 on 3rd June 2025 and goalless on 12th June 2021. GHANA won a competitive WAFU Match of 14th February 2018 by a lone goal.

 

Ghana ranked 60 made 4 appearances at WAFCON always losing at group stages in 1998, 2002 and 2008. Ivory Coast ranked 72 had no brilliant WAFCON record made just two appearances at the party and a Bronze in 2014.

 

Ten times champions and dethroned current defending champions, Super Falcons of Nigeria will play a redemption match against Bayana Bayana of South Africa at 9pm tonight at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca.

 

On Saturday 15th at 6pm hosts Morocco will have a North African Derby with Algeria at the Rabat Olympic Stadium. The grand finale is on Sunday 16th at 8pm between Debutante Scorchers of Malawi and Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon.
