The Lagos State Government on Monday alerted residents of some areas within the state to be wary of heavy rainfall, rising water level, riverbank overflows, and flash floods from June 14 to 21, 2026, tagging them: “Critical Risk Areas.”
The Permanent Secretary in the Office of Drainage Service and Water Resources, Engineer Mahamood Adegbite, made this known.
Adegbite quoted a flood prediction update issued by the Federal Ministry of the Environment as having listed the areas.
They include Apapa, Badagry, Epe, Eti-Osa, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Ikoyi, Lagos Island, Lekki, Ojo, Orile-Agege, Surulere, Agege, Alimosho, and Kosofe.
The flood prediction update from the Federal Ministry of the Environment was signed by the Director of Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management, Usman Bokani.

The update advised communities classified as critical to maintain immediate flood watch, identify evacuation routes, and protect vulnerable households.It said: “Avoid settlement or trading activities within active floodplains, low-lying drain corridors and riverbank areas.”
The Lagos State Government however assured residents of all the listed areas and the whole state in general to remain calm as the government is on top of its game always through its year round maintenance and cleaning of all its primary and secondary channels.
Adegbite added in the statement on Monday: “These proactive steps have ensured that the state has not suffered any devastating effect that comes with heavy rainfalls since the advent of the rains this year.”
