The push to position serving Senator Salisu Afolabi Shuaib as the face of Ogun Central ahead of 2027 collapsed today after APC stakeholders and party members in the district openly rejected his candidacy at a high-level meeting in Abeokuta.

The Ogun Central Stakeholders’ Meeting, held at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, was expected to foster unity among party leaders. Instead, it turned into a clear rejection of any attempt to advance Salisu Afolabi Shuaib without wider consultation.

Present at the gathering were State Party Chairman Mr. Yemi Sanusi, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola “Yayi”, Deputy Governor Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Speaker Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, SSG Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, and a broad cross-section of party elders, local government leaders, and grassroots members.

When Salisu Afolabi Shuaib’s name was tabled, the room erupted in dissent. Stakeholders described the move as an attempt to bypass due process and sideline other qualified aspirants within the district.

Speakers argued that Ogun Central had always valued fairness and inclusivity, and that the senatorial ticket should emerge through a transparent process that reflects the will of party members. Calls for an open primary and equal opportunity for all aspirants dominated the discussions.

The rejection was decisive enough that several aggrieved members staged a walkout before the meeting’s close, warning that any imposition would fracture the party’s base in the district.

With today’s outcome, Salisu Afolabi Shuaib’s bid faces a significant setback as Ogun Central stakeholders insist the district’s representation must be decided by the people, not by arrangement.
