A mother of eight children, Hafsatu Yusuf, has given birth to quintuplets – additional five children at once, at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, Northwest Nigeria.

In response, the state government has declared readiness to assume responsibility for their medical care.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Ministry of Health, Nabilusi Na’isa.

According to the statement, the woman delivered the five babies—three boys and two girls—shortly before the announcement was made.

It added that both the mother and the newborns are currently receiving specialised medical attention at the facility.

The husband, Salisu Nufi’u, a tricycle rider, thanked the state government for the intervention, describing it as timely support.

“This support has come at a very critical moment for my family, and we are deeply grateful to the government,” he said.

The government said the intervention is part of efforts to strengthen the healthcare system, particularly in improving maternal and child health services.

It reiterated its commitment to reducing maternal and infant mortality rates and ensuring access to quality healthcare, especially for vulnerable residents in the state.

“We will continue to support the general public, particularly the less privileged, to ensure they have access to quality healthcare services,” the statement added.

Quintuplets—five babies born in a single pregnancy—are extremely rare and often require intensive medical care due to the high-risk nature of multiple births.
