The Lagos State Taskforce has intensified its clean-up enforcement operations aimed at ridding the state of criminal elements, recording a major incident at the Fagba Railway Corridor where suspected miscreants allegedly set parts of the area ablaze in an attempt to resist arrest and evade law enforcement.

The railway corridor, according to the agency, had become a hotspot for criminal activities, including robbery, rape, cultism, drug peddling, illegal brothel operations involving teenagers paraded as strippers, as well as the stoning of moving trains and passengers.

In response to these concerns, the Taskforce carried out a targeted enforcement raid to restore order and improve safety in the area.

This is contained in a statement by Gbadeyan Abdulraheem,Director of Press and publicity of the Task Force.

The operation, which began in the early hours of the day, was coordinated by the Chairman of the Agency, CSP Adetayo Akerele, in line with the Taskforce’s zero-tolerance policy on criminality. Areas covered during the exercise included Alfa Nla, Okekoto, Pen Cinema in the Agege axis, and the Fagba Railway Corridor, where the presence of criminal elements had reportedly been established.

During the operation at Fagba, officers encountered resistance from some of the suspects, who allegedly escalated the situation by setting parts of the railway corridor on fire.

The disturbance also threatened nearby facilities, including Sunbeth Filling Station and a Zenith Bank branch in the area. A total of 49 suspects were arrested in connection with the arson and other related criminal activities.

The agency said all arrested suspects would be charged to court in accordance with the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017.

Speaking after the operation, Akerele warned youths against engaging in criminal activities, stressing that “crime is not a career” and urging them to embrace lawful and productive ventures.
The enforcement exercise marks the third operation conducted in the area this year, underscoring the agency’s commitment to sustaining public safety and dismantling criminal hideouts across Lagos State.
