Ten-time African champion, Super Falcons of Nigeria has arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja from Morocco at about 2:26 pm.
The victorious team, which arrived aboard a chattered flight, fought from a two-goal deficit to defeat hosts Morocco in Saturday night’s final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 3-2.
The team arrived to a rousing welcome from fans and government officials, some of whom had waited at the airport for hours to receive their heroines.
Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade was seen raising the WAFCON trophy high as she alighted from the aircraft, symbolising the team’s victorious homecoming.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mallam Mohammed Idris; Minister of Culture and Tourism, Ms. Hanatu Musawa; and the Minister for Women Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, were among the government officials that welcomed the team.

The Super Falcons will parade the WAFCON trophy in an open bus across the streets of Abuja enroute to the Presidential Villa where they will be hosted by President Bola Tinubu.

The Super Falcons did not just the trophy but also the top prize of $1 million (about N1.54 billion).
Ajibade also emerged the Most Valuable Player of the championship, while compatriot Chiamaka Nnadozie was voted the best goalkeeper: Chiamaka Nnadozie.
