Hundreds of aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from all 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State staged a peaceful protest at the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday, expressing discontent over the recent local government elections and the roles played by some party leaders.

The protesters, chanting solidarity songs and carrying placards, demanded the immediate removal of the APC Lagos State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, and a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. James Faleke, accusing them of poor leadership and manipulating party processes to the detriment of grassroots democracy.

They appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and other senior APC leaders to urgently intervene in the matter, warning that unresolved grievances could deepen internal party divisions and threaten the APC’s prospects in the 2027 general elections in Lagos.

Adeleke’s, Obi’s dilemma

“We are loyal members of the APC, but we are not happy with how things are going. The leadership at the state level is not doing well. If this continues, it will affect our chances in subsequent elections,” said Alhaji Talibu Lawal, one of the protesters from Onigbongbo LCDA.

According to Lawal, Hon. James Faleke has overstayed his relevance in the party’s local political structure and should step aside to allow for fresh leadership.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, was said to be aware of the protest. Security personnel were deployed to the Assembly complex to maintain law and order, ensuring that the demonstration remained peaceful.

Security agents stayed on ground throughout the protest to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
