Ogun workers embark on indefnite strike

Workers including secondary school teachers are to commence an indefinite strike from today against the state government.

The strike is coming barely 48 hours after the burial of state foremost traditional ruler,Oba Sikiru Adetona,Awujale of Ijebuland.
As a result, all public officiaks have been asked to stay away from work.
The state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC ,issued the directive to workers via a notice date July 14,2025.

 

The directive is contained in a memo date July14 and signed by Comrade Chris Omuneh.
According to the NLC the call to down tools is as a result of failure of successive governments in the state to pay their share of the contributory pension scheme in the last fourteen years.

 

He stated that since the scheme was introduced 17 years ago,the state government has paid only 34 months out of the 17years leaving an arrears of over 14 years.

According to Organised Labour in the state made up of NLC,TUC recalled the publicized Adekunle Hassan report of 2022 on which nothing has been done for implementation by the state government.
The unions asked all workers to comply by staying away from work until the government enter into dialogue with the workers saying it’s doors are opened for negotiations
