Contrary to established tradition, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has officially presented the staff of office to the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade.
This us contrary to laid down tradition where a new Oba in Yorubaland us exoected to go through Ipebi rites…a seclusion during which the new Oba will go tutelage about tradition and culture of tge sacred throne.
The action of the Governor which is coming barely a week after the confirmation of the appointment of the Canada based Oba Owoade as new Alaafin of Oyo to succeed Oba Lamidi Adeyemi Ii who reigned for 52 years.
The presentation of the staff of office to the new Alaafin marked the formal ascension of the monarch to the Alaafin throne.

The ceremony took place on Monday at the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Ibadan.
It was attended by dignitaries, traditional rulers, government officials, and enthusiastic indigenes of Oyo.
Governor Makinde described Oba Owoade as a leader well-suited to uphold the cultural and historical heritage of the Oyo Kingdom.

According to the governor, the Alaafin of Oyo is not just a traditional ruler but a custodian of rich history and tradition.
In his remark, Oba Owoade expressed gratitude to the people of Oyo and pledged to prioritise the development of the kingdom and the welfare of its residents.
Oba Owoade succeeded the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, whose reign lasted for five decades.
Ona Adeyemi joined his ancestors two years ago.
