Muslim Jurists Debate Sharia in Southern Nigeria

Should the quest for the introduction of Islamic Law in the southern part of Nigeria materialise, what impact would it have on religious harmony and peaceful co-existence of all citizens?

This is the issue that will be interrogated by jurists and Islamic scholars at the inauguration of the Eti-Osa Unit of the Muslim Lawyers Association (MULLAN) next Sunday at Al-Hujaaj Central Mosque, Igbokusu, Lekki I, Lagos.

According to a Press Statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Unit – Mr. AbdulHakeem Makinde, a former Dean, Faculty of Law of the Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. F. A. R. Adeleke will give the keynote address while a Kadi of the Sharia Court of Appeal, Kwara State – Hon. Justice Abdulraheem Ahmad Sayi will deliver the special lecture at the event.
The release also explained that the occasion would also feature the swearing-in of the members of the Executive Committee of the Unit, namely Mr. Olawale Ajia (Chairman), Imam Ahmad Manir (Vice-Chairman), Mr. Sulaiman Abdulsalam (Secretary), Mr. Qudus Adeoye (Assistant Secretary), Mrs. Hauwa Ibrahim Uthman (Treasurer), Mrs. Kehinde Abdulrasheed (Financial Secretary), Mr. Abdulhakeem Makinde (Public Relations Officer) and Mrs. Sekinat Makanjuola (Welfare Secretary).

Personalities expected at the ceremony include HRM Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi of Ikateland, HRM Oba Abdulhakeem Olokodana – the Alakodo of Akodoland; Hon. Justice Abdullahi Al-Ilory, the Kadi of the Sharia Court of Appeal, Federal Capital Territory, Alhaji Abdul Jaleel Animashaun – CEO, Al-Hujaaj Hajj and Umrah Services; Judges, Senior Advocates of Nigeria and other prominent lawyers.
