The House of Representatives has announced an investigation into the recently approved construction of an airstrip at Canaanland, the headquarters of the Living Faith Church, authorized by the Minister of Aviation.
Lawmakers have raised concerns that allowing private entities to establish airstrips could facilitate the illegal importation of firearms and hard drugs, potentially worsening national security issues, including insurgency, banditry, and kidnapping.

In a motion presented by Honorable Sulaiman Abubakar Mahmud Gummi, the House urged the Minister of Aviation to halt the issuance of airstrip licenses to private individuals. The motion further called for the immediate revocation of any licenses already granted to private entities and organizations.
The House emphasized that prioritizing national security and public safety should be paramount in decisions surrounding private airstrips and other transport infrastructure.
The investigation aims to evaluate the potential risks associated with privately owned airstrips and the measures needed to mitigate them.
