Gunmen have killed three members of SuperSport’s television crew who were en route to Uyo, Akwa Ibom, to broadcast Nigeria’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Libya, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed on Saturday.

The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday when the crew, travelling from Lagos to Uyo, was ambushed by gunmen along the Ihiala-Orlu Road in Anambra State. Of the 14 passengers in the vehicle, eight were rescued, two managed to escape, three were killed, and one remains unaccounted for.

NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau expressed deep sorrow over the incident while extending condolences to the families of the deceased.

“While we won the match and claimed three points, the loss of these lives casts a shadow on our victory. It’s difficult to celebrate knowing what has happened,” Gusau remarked.

He praised SuperSport for its longstanding partnership with Nigerian football, emphasizing the broadcaster’s professionalism and commitment to delivering high-quality sports coverage.
