Former Chairman of Ijebu East local government,Honourable Wale Adedayo has described the Supreme courtruling on autonomy of local government as a vindication of his position on the issue.
It will be recalled that the veteran Journalist was impeached by his colleagues at the council for daring to challenge Ogun state Governor ,Prince Dapo Abiodun on diversion of local government funds by state governors.

In reaction to the judgement handed over by the nations apex court,Adedayo told Newdawnngr.com that the judgement us an indication that President Bola Tinubu is ready to depeen the practise of democracy in the country.
Said he,”For me, the current Federal Administration headed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appears ready to deepen the practice of democracy in Nigeria.
Besides, it appears also that he is feeling the pain of our people at the grassroots and he wants them to have a feeling of good governance.”
Honourable Adedayo added that the summary of his letter last year to former Ogun State Governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, is what the Supreme Court just ruled on.
It will be recalled that the letter to Osoba which triggered his impeachment was used against him.by his colleagues in other nineteen local councils who ditched him and instead went to beg the governor for what they described as his im proper action.
“But I was charged in court” he said instead of having the support of my colleagues local government chairs.
” In fact, my criminal trial initiated by Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, continues tomorrow at Abeokuta Chief Magistrate Court, Isabo.” He added
Honourable Adedayo declared that the country as presently constituted ” can never develop without an effective system of Local Government Administration. And one of the reasons for the success of any government is availablity of funds”.

Once these funds go directly to each local government, you’ll be amazed at the number of quality people vying for positions at the local government level.
There is no word yet from the Nigeria Governors Forum which has resisted moves by previous governments to remove the state/local government joint account which has been the cause of friction between the two tiers of government.
Besides,the Supreme Court ruling will now make it illegal for any governor to dissolve ejected local government chairmen.
Not only this, caretaker committee will no longer be able to benefit from the monthly allocations from the federation account until a proper local ejection is conducted.
