Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo state has called for good governance from all public office holders in other to bring hope back to the citizenry and the country at large.

He spoke just as the Publisher of Freedom Online Publications, Gabriel Akinadewo said for the country to achieve reasonable level of security and do things in proper way, creation of state police has become a necessity.

 

Governor Uzodimma spoke as the Guest Lecturer at the fifth Annual Lecture of the Freedom Online publication held at Sheraton Hotel, Lagos.

The theme of the Lecture is “2023-2027 : Elected leaders, Nigerians and Expectations.

According to the governor, the peculiarity of Nigeria has made a national identity difficult because of its diversity having over 250 ethnic groups which made communications between the govern and masses difficult but added that good governance will make the country work.

Said he,”As I said earlier, this expectations are not far fetched. they were the same things Nigerians have been expecting since independence in 1963.

He added that there is a need for a quick review of how much of good governance that was achieved up to 2023,”before we can predict what it will look like in the next for years.

However, Akinadewo added that the country must decentralise power in order to do things differently adding that, “the world is moving. we cannot afford to do things differently and thus remain stagnant.

He spoke of the need to allow the regions develop on their own adding that the 1999 constitution should be reworked since the nations problems are local hence the need to solve the local challenges.

Speaking in the same vein, former vice chairman of the opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olabode George said creating state police has become inevitable if the nation must move forward.

In his own contribution, former Ondo state governor, Navy Captain Omoniyi Olubolade said that not that a new government is in power, it should dwell more on creating jobs, maintain law and order, tackle insecurity and the hardship being encountered by the people.
