Rivers state governor, Nyesome Wike has explained that the G 5 governors worked for President elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in the interest of power shift to the South.
He spoke at the Banquet held in honour of the President-elect in Port Harcourt Wednesday night
He contended that national politics is different from local (state) politics.
Said he,” in the last presidential election, sustaining the unity of the country was more important than his party winning the contest. He added that the G5 Governors appreciate APC Governors who thought it wise that power should rotate to the South.
” I kept calling Gov Badaru to ask if they (Northern Progressive Governors) would truly deliver for a Southern candidate and the response was always positive.
– that the G5 Governors did not do anti-party against PDP rather, it was those who violated the party’s constitution over zoning that indeed committed anti-party offences.
– that the mentality in our political space here in Nigeria is that an election is only free and fair if the opposition wins. He said that Tinubu himself lost in Lagos state yet the opposition said that the presidential election was rigged.
He noted that Govs Ortom and Ikpeazu lost their senatorial election yet no one said that it was rigged but they’d said so if they had won.
– that the President-elect is a trustworthy person. He said that in 2018, he was sent to convince him to work against President Buhari
but when he got there and told him his mission, Tinubu asked him to present the list of PDP’s aspirants and when he presented it, he replied that he would prefer to work for Buhari 200 times over instead of any of the PDP presidential aspirants.
– that except performance is no longer an important yardstick in election will any other party defeat PDP in Rivers state.
– that he has confidence in Tinubu’s capacity to better the lot of Nigeria.
– that instead of praying that his government fail, Nigerians should pray for its success.
