It was gathered that the students, who were all boarders, had on different occasions jumped the school’s fence with their female counterparts and stayed out of school for days.

Abductors of four students demand N12m as ransom

Below is the details of what happened ….

Dear Builders of Bridges, as members of this alumni association, following the publication in The Punch Newspaper this morning, we owe it to you to pass across what really transpired as this affects you whether directly or indirectly.

It was alleged that:
1. For three terms, students have been leaving the school unnoticed
2. That the ages of the students involved are between 14 to 17
3. That these cases happened due to the negligence of the principal and house masters and mistresses
4. That the school tried to cover up this ugly incident.
5. That it was when a student impregnated another student that the covered story was blown open.

The Punch Newspaper got unreliable information from an unreliable source. Some of these allegations are false and wrongly reported. We have set the record straight to Punch Newspaper and we are expecting an updated version tomorrow.

A couple of weeks ago just before the FEDCOL GAMES which held in Lagos, there was a roll call in the school, a regular random exercise carried out by the school management as one of the measures to keep tabs on the students and curb their excesses. It was during this exercise that the authorities realized that some students were not in their dormitories. The parents of the said students were immediately called to find out if their children were at home. None of the missing children were in their homes. With some stroke of luck and after a lot of pressure from the authorities, one of the students decided to open up as to where these students were. It was with this information that the school authorities along with the parents of these students and officers of the Ijanikin Police Station found them in a hotel within the community. The students were picked up and taken to the Ijanikin Police Station for further interrogation. It was discovered that the ring leader is the son of a popular monarch. As recommended by the set rules and guidelines of the Federal Ministry of Education, the students were immediately suspended indefinitely. The rest is history.

The SBMC Schools Based Management Committee is a body of all the stakeholders.
SBMC Chairman, the Principal and all the Vice Principals, the representative of The Education Minister, Oba of Ijanikin, The Ijanikin Divisional Police Officer, The Local Government rep in charge of Education, the PTA Chairman and the Global President of the Old Students Association. The SBMC meets on a regular basis but when there are issues like this, the Chairman calls for an emergency meeting after the students must have faced the disciplinary committee. We the SBMC members delebrate on the recommendation of the Disciplinary committee adhering strictly to the Federal Ministry of Educations Guidelines. However, there have been occasions where parents come to the school to threaten the principal and management for taking the necessary disciplinary measures where their children have been badly behaved.
The management of the school has been swift in dealing with the situation. They have taken the appropriate steps according to the Federal Ministry of Education Guidelines and have in no way tried to cover up the incident.
The school management is committed to instilling discipline in every student and we hope that the parents of each student lend their support in making our children good and upright citizens of Nigeria.
