La Celeste (The Sky Blue) of Uruguay on Thursday played a goalless draw with the Tigers of Asia, South Korea in Group H of the 2022 Qatar world cup.Qatar 2022: Cameroonian cages Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in lone goal loss to Switzerland
It was a game that both teams showed they were goal shy as there was nothing recorded for shots on target but 8 shots for Uruguay and 5 for Tigers off target meaning they were no good marks or hit men or perhaps have a sense of getting goals which is essential skill in football.
Uruguay had 4 corner kicks to Tigers 3 but the averagely short men of South Korea had 10 foul calls to the South Americans 7. Their heights meant they will not go for aerial boys r the in-swingers from corner kicks.
There is a notable observation that needs to be passed through empirical evidence that all the teams that have played so far prefers to walk the ball into the 18 yard box before attempting to shoot unlike the days of Teslim Thunder Balogun or Alloy Atuegbu of Nigeria who never went to the world cup but would shoot at sight like the conventional police men of Nigeria during raids.
Uruguay came to the party from the beginning of the world cup in 1930 with 14 shows and Luis Suarez of Athletico Madrid who has scored 68 goals for them. Their best showings were three semifinal appearances in 1954, 1970 and the controversial 2010 games in South Africa. They played quarter finals twice in 1966 and last tournament in 2018.
The drama was that Suarez deliberately hand held a goal bound shot and was given a straight red card but the resultant penalty kick by Captain Asamoah Gyan was ballooned over the bar and within added time Uruguay won the match. Incidentally, the two teams are in the same group in this tournament as football pundits are waiting to see how the Black Stars of Ghana will revenge the South Africa drama.
The Tigers of Asia, South Korea ranked 28 are making their 11th appearance with a best 4th place feat in 2002. They also made the round of 16 in 2010 but separate from these two tournaments, they were always kicked out at group stages.
Uruguay will play Portugal in the second group game on Monday 28th at 8pm while South Korea will play Ghana same day at 2pm.
