…Promises multi faceted programmes to develop Owu
The week long activities marking the Coronation of the 14th Olowu of Owu , Abeokuta,Oba Prof Saka Adelola Matemilola, begins in Abeokuta next Sunday October 23.
According to the programme of activities,the week- long Coronation of the monarch will kick off on Sunday October 23 with a press conference to be addressed by the Coronation Committee and an Appeasement party to be held at the Olowu Palace.
Oba Matemilola,a technocrat and successful businessman,it will be recalled succeded Oba Olusanya Adegboyega Dosunmu, Amororo II who joined his ancestors last December.
He was selected among eleven other aspirants to the stool by the Owu kingmakers and approved by the state government.
The 8-day programme is a double celebration of sort as it will include celebration of this year’s ‘Odun Omo Olowu’,an annual cultural festival of Owu people to herald the New Yam.
It will climax on Sunday October 30, 2022 with Traditional, Muslim and Christian thanksgiving services which will hold at Oba Odeleye Park.
Highlight of the activities will include the coronation of Oba Matemilola on Monday, October 24 2022.
Among other events of the day is the opening of the medical counselling and consultation clinic.
On Tuesday and Wednesday October 25 and 26, 2022 villages, settlements, groups and associations will pay homages to the new Olowu at his palace.
Youth seminar and colloquium will hold at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, OOPL on Thursday, October 27 as well as the launch of Olowu Foundation among other events.
A commemorative golf game at the Abeokuta Golf Club, Oke Mosan and skills development seminar will hold at the OOPL on Friday, October, 28 2022.
The day’s activities will also include the tour of historical places in Abeokuta story telling and reminiscences by elderly people, games and sports. A banquet will also hold later in day at the OOPL.
The grand finale of this year’s “Odun Omo Olowu”which forms the second part of the coronation activities and the official presentation of staff of office by the Ogun State Government to Oba Matemilola will hold on Saturday, October 29, 2022.
The venue of the two major events is the Oba Odeleye Park, Ori Omi, Owu Totoro, Abeokuta.
Later in the day, an exclusive celebratory dinner for the Olowu, his friends and associates will also hold.
The new Olowu has been in spiritual confinement in the past eleven weeks as is the tradition of Obas in Yorubaland.
A petroleum engineer by training,qualification and profession,he is widely travelled and expected to bring into the Owu throne his wealth of experience,vast business and intellectual contacts to bear on the exalted Owu throne.
