Kwara State Governor AbdulrRahman AbdulRazaq, has now been appointed by the All Progressives Congress National Caretaker Committee in Abuja to lead a team to conduct Saturday’s governorship primary election of the party in Osun State.
Details of other members of the election panel were still sketchy as of the time of filing this report. Western Post, however, learnt that Governor Abdulrazaq and other members of the panel have already been briefed of their assignment.
They have also been given the instruments and logistics for the primary election.
Two other candidates from the flank of former Governor of the state and Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, namely former Secretary to the State Government, Chief Moshood Adeoti aka Shehu, and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Lasun Yusuf, are pitted against the state Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for the party’s ticket for the July election.
Governor Oyetola who is widely believed to have performed brilliantly well in his first term is seeking re-election.
But the ante in the election heightened a couple of days ago when former Governor Aregbesola stormed Osun State chanting war songs and declaring that Oyetola would not return for a second term.
Addressing his supporters in his Ilesa hometown, he also called out his benefactor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the APC National Leader and Chief Bisi Akande, a former governor of the state and former Interim National Chairman of APC.
However, only on Wednesday, the traditional ruler of Aregbesola’s hometown, the Akwa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, spoke glowingly of Governor Oyekola’s performance and openly endorsed him for a second term in office.
