Olubadan stool: Balogun to know fate February 1

775

The crisis over who becomes the new Olubadan of Ibadanland may have to wait till February 1 after a Court of Appeal hearing on the matter of Baale crowns confered on 22 Ibadan chiefs by former governor Isiaka Ajimobi.
The matter was filed by Senator Lekan Balogun and according to agreement reached with other 21 chiefs who got conferred by former Isiaka Ajimobi and which have since been reversed after he left office.
The decision of Senator Lekan Balogun to withdraw or continue with his Appeal against the decision of Ibadan kingmakers not to honour the Baales appointed by late Governor Ajimobi appears to be the stumbling block for the acceptance of Senator Balogun, the Otun Olubadan to step into the shoe of the late Olubadan as the next in line to the succession according to Ibadan Chieftancy law.
Newdawnngr sources revealed that while other Baales had withdrawn their suit challenging the decision to revert to their former roles, only Senator Balogun is yet to do so.
It was learnt that the Ibadan kingmakers are insisting that he must withdraw the suit before he can be allowed to be crowned the next Olubadan since it will amount to breaching the Chieftancy law.
That he is yet to withdraw the suit is interpreted as reluctance to relinquish the previous crown and now a subject of protest by the Kingmakers council.
Ordinarily,a new pronouncement of the kingmakers is expected to be made after 21days but Senator Balogun is insisting that the Appeal he filed must allowed to hold before he can withdraw.
Friday January 28 makes it 28 days after the stipulated period.
Hence, should any of the parties bring an injunction on February 1,when the grace given by the chiefs lapses, the council may ask the Osi Olubadan,Chief Rasheed Ladoja to be made Olubadan should Balogun continue with his suit which is viewed as contrary to the decision of other 21 chiefs made Baales to relinquish their titles and return to their former position in the Ibadan Chieftancy rules since nobody can wear two crowns in same city.
As at the time of writing , a headway is yet to be made as the event of February 1in the Court of Appeal will determine next line of action on the Olubadan issue.
