The umbrella body of Yoruba Self-determination groups, Ilana Omo Oodua, has disclosed the reason the embattled Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho is still being remanded in a detention facility in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

The spokesman of the group, Maxwell Adeleye revealed that the judges in Benin Republic are currently on vacation, adding that the development has delayed the release of the activist.

Recall that the New Diplomat had reported that Igboho was arrested in Cotonou, while trying to catch a flight to Germany with his wife, Ropo. He has since been remanded in Cotonou and is currently facing trial at the Cour De’appal.

Speaking on the situation, Adeleye disclosed that the legal counsel are working tirelessly to secure the release of Igboho, saying that majority of the allegations levelled against the activist has been cleared.

According to him, the allegations that have been successfully tackled are trafficking in arms, inciting violence that could result in social disturbance, and causing disunity in Nigeria.

He further added that the judges will resume work on September 15.

“The judges are on vacation. They are expected to hear his case after the resumption and he should be freed. There was no vacation judge to hear the case. It is not like Nigeria where you have vacation judges,” Maxwell stated.
