Foremost journalist and former Executive Governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, on Wednesday urged the Nigerian Union of Journalism (NUJ) to focus on developmental journalism and ethics of the profession.

He urged the Union to ensure that all Bloggers compulsorily register to practice the profession because many untrained people now called themselves investigative journalists.

Speaking at the World Journalism Education Council Round Table in Lagos, Aremo Osoba insisted that any Blogger should be blocked from operating their ‘Katanga journalism’ which is publication of fake news. He particularly mentioned an American based online news Agency operating in Nigeria which thrives on blackmail.

The veteran reporter wants Technology Information made compulsory course for trainee journalists and their tutors to catch up with development in information dissemination.

In his welcome address, Convener Prof. Ralph Akinfelye, said mass communication is capital intensive and what students need are facilities not just typewriters.

He complained that admission policies on mass communications students should be reviewed as managing over 250,000 students is cumbersome for a lecturer.

Among those present at the Roundtable are,Eniola Olatunji,Publisher of Patmos Media online who himself has put in 44 years of journalism work.
The conference was moderated by the Bagbimo of Ijebuland and Vice President of the UNILAG Alumni Association, Chief Dr. Fassy Yusuf.
