National carrier of the United Arab , Emirates Airline has extended an existing flights ban on Nigeria until Sunday, August 15, 2021.
This was disclosed in a release made available on its website.
Emirates confirmed that customers who have been to or connected through Nigeria; in the previous 14 days will not be permitted on any Emirates flights bound for Dubai. The airline disclosed that affected flight bookings have thus been cancelled.
Equally important, Emirates also disclosed that it was experiencing a “greater volume of calls than anticipated”.
1st News reports that the latest development continues a trend of seemingly unending extension of the embargo on Nigeria.
Earlier on Tuesday, August 3, authorities in the UAE disclosed that UAE residents in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Nigeria; as well as Uganda could apply to return. Consequently, expatriates who were abroad when restrictions were imposed, largely because of the Delta variant outbreak in their home countries in April; as well as May, scrambled to apply for permission from UAE’s immigration authorities and catch the first flights home.
