A traditional ruler in Ogun State, has advocated for a pre-election orientation in political and public governance for politicians seeking election into any of the three tiers of legislative chambers in Nigeria.
Such orientation programme, opined the ruler, should be designed and anchored by the Department of Political and Economic Affairs, the National Orientation Agency and the Ministry of Information.
Oba Olufemi Ogunleye, Towulade Akinale,  of Ogun State, believed that such a pre-election orientation for politicians would not only serve as an enhancement towards performance if elected, but also serve as a weeding test for intellect and capability of the potential candidates.
Addressing a group of politicians who had called in his palace at Akinale to introduce some candidates seeking election into the local government council, Oba Ogunleye said local government is the bastion of rural integration and development that should be accorded serious and effective attention, adding, it is foundation of governance which should be strongly armoured.
He explained that the demography of human population and the major factor of production in the nation’s economy, are embedded in the rural domicile under the purview of local government council, for which its management deserves better, proactive and efficient handling by educated, articulated and integrity ascertained personalities.
“The era of ” all sorts” and “twalle boys” as council administrators is no longer tenable in Nigeria” Oba Ogunleye, inferred.
The Traditional Ruler admonished the current system where local government administrators take traditional rulers in their locale for granted by keeping them in abeyance in all matters of relevance to grassroots development only for them to surface at the palaces when elections are at the corner.
