Akeredolu promoting terrorism in Yorubaland, says Oodua group
‘ Attacks on Prof Akintoye unreasonable’
The Governor of Ondo State Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu by asking promoters of Yoruba self determination not to come to Ondo State is indirectly promoting the spread of terrorism in Ondo State and across Yorubaland, a Pan Oodua group has said.
Apapo Oodua Koya, (AOKOYA) a coalition of several Pan Yoruba groups in a statement on Friday signed by Capt Muftau Akeredolu (rtd) also described as ‘irresponsible’ the attack on a Yoruba leader, Professor Adebanji Akintoye who Akeredolu on Wednesday described as “hustler.”
AOKOYA said Prof Akintoye was a Senator that represented Ondo State comprising today’s Ekiti State adding that in qualitative terms, Akintoye’s mandate cannot be compared with Akeredolu who obtained his mandate through day-light robbery and malice against common and ancestral Yoruba laws.
Capt Adetiloye (rtd), AOKOYA’s Ondo State coordinator said Akeredolu’s recent anti-Yoruba stand is a call for the growth of terrorism and banditry in the South West States.
“Akeredolu represents the vucious and rogue Nigerian state. He benefits from the blood money and the criminal enterprise that have brought pain, misery and agony to every home in Nigeria.’
The group insists Akeredolu lacks legitimacy saying that he won with 292, 830, being 0.05 percent of the mandate of 4 million people in Ondo State.
The group said Akeredolu’s attack on a Yoruba leader, Prof Akintoye describing him as a ‘hustler’ diminishes the reputation and ethical orientation of the Ondo State Governor and shows the wide gap between him and the burning desires and aspirations of the people of Ondo State.
The group said Akeredolu who claims to lead Ondo State has no solution to the spread of armed men that have occupied forests in Ondo State, no solution to the killing of the daughter of Yoruba leader, Rueben Fasoranti, the murder of a first class Oba, the Olufon of Ifon, the rape of mothers and girls, the ceaseless abductions in Ondo State, driving away farmers from their land by Fulani herdsmen and the reign of siege, terror and anomie in Ondo State yet lay fraudulent claim to legitimacy.
‘The reign of terror in Ondo State and across Yoruba make no meaning to Akeredolu and his hands-in-gloves crooks who arrogantly preside over the path to conquest and ruin of Yoruba Nation’ the group said.
It added ‘This is because Akeredolu and his family live at the expense of the people whose sweat provide all their needs and wants, they are also fortified by soldiers and a retinue of police men enough to guard 10 local governments in Ondo State put together. They don’t feel the pain. They are anti-history.‘
AOKOYA said ‘You don’t feel concerned but your antics will be consumed by the fervent and tide of popular resistance. We remind you and your cohorts that after spending N30billion naira, the entire budget of some sovereign nations to ‘win’ the 2020 election, you still deceive yourself that you are a leader of the people. You won on the platter of blood, murder, sweat and agony of the masses. You hold on to a stolen mandate secured through threats, intimidation, bribery, thievery and a tribute to swindle that has no place in decent democracies.’
AOKOYA said the statement signed by one Odebowale lacks insight and decorum but only resorted to name calling, bullying and personal attacks especially on Prof Akintoye. ‘The so called Odebowale demonstrated infantile reactionary disorder. His statement on behalf of Akeredolu shows the desperation in saving a ship that is destined for a shipwreck all because of personal greed and lucre.’
The group said calling those fighting for Yoruba self determination faceless reflects a lack of any sense of history. ‘Faceless people have brought down tyrants and rogues in power. The faceless people brought down Gen Sani Abacha. They brought down apartheid in South Africa. They defeated Hitler. Faceless people brought democracy in 1999. For the fact that some of those fighting for Yoruba self determination today have resulted to go underground shows that the conditions of repression and state sponsored violence associated with the past military are now back in Nigeria and this is a shame for people like Akeredolu.
