A fresh round of mobilisation is currently mounting in the social media, as Nigerian youths plan another massive protest against the reopening of the Lekki Tollgate, where scores of #EndSARS protesters, were allegedly killed by soldiers in October, last year, for business.

The youths are kicking against the permission granted the Lekki Concession Company (LCC), the body that in charge of the operation of the facility, which had shut down, following the incident of October 20, 2020, when soldiers, allegedly shot and killed some of the protesters, in cold blood.

The issue surrounding the incident, is currently being canvassed at the panel set up by the Lagos State Government to investigate the alleged shooting, alongside the excesses of the police under the now disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF),

The mobilisation including display pictures and banners to further push the project is, being carried out under the banner of #RevolutionNow and #OccupyLekkiTollGate, is already gathering momentum, and trending on Twitter, where

Part of the messages on the posters, used in mobilising for the protest scheduled to commence at 7 am on Saturday, February 13, 2020, read: “No justice, no reopening”, and “Occupy Lekki tollgate” among others.

The membership of the investigative panel, had disagreed sharply over the propriety of reopening of the tollgate, after the LCC pleaded that they should be allowed to return to business at the once thriving money-minting facility.

Justice Doris Okuwobi, a retired judge had agreed with four other members including Segun Awosanya (popularly known as Segalink), Oluwatoyin Odusanya (Director, Citizens Rights), DIG Taiwo Lakanu (retd.) (representing the police) and Lucas Koyejo (from the National Human Rights Commission) to accede to the LCC’s request.

Four other members including Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN), Ms. Patience Udoh and the two youth representatives on the panel – Rinu Oduala and Temitope Majekodunmi, had kicked against the request, favouring that the facility remained shut.

One of the campaigners, Omoyele Sowore, tweeted, “No to the reopening of #Lekkitollgate, the perpetrators of #LekkiMassacre must be brought to book.”

Dr Chuks @AhanekuChuks urged those planning to protest to strategise properly, saying, “Now we move with strategies and togetherness, it is time you showed what you have got for the government.

“We have given them much time but they took our silent night for granted not knowing that we are putting heads together to study how to bring peace to the new generation.”

Dtowncrier threatened that “Reopen Lekki tollgate and reopen #EndSARS protest.”

Benzkovic001 @Benzkovic001 also faulted the reopening of the Lekki tollgate.

Coconut Head @iamProficience added, “We never believed the panel, nothing good ever came out of any panel in Nigeria but a mere inquiry. No going back till there’s justice for all! #OccupyLekkiTollGate on Saturday! #Endsarsbrutality.”

“We all knew that the panel is just a means to divert youths’ attention, only the rich and those in power get justice. But history has been made and stories will be told of how the youths of Nigeria fought against #Badgovernment #EndSARS,” @Shaddyrok added.
