Late politician and Awo associate, Dayo Abatan has been described as an incorruptible politician who dedicated his life to humanitarian service and community development.

Political associates and friends made this declaration during a condolence visit to the deceased’s residence at Ijeun Titun in Obafemi Owode local government of Ogun State.

Until his demise, Abatan was a member of the newly inaugurated Governors’ Elders Advisory Council inaugurated by the State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.

The associates led Chief Michael Joda stressed that the sudden departure of Abatan was synonymous to the fall of great tree in the tick forest.

Tracing the historical background of Abatan who died at 80, Joda stressed that he fought doggedly for late MKO Abiola’s presidential ambition before the military turn the table.
It will be recalled that Abatan, the first publicity secretary of the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria(UPN) in Ogun state during the second republic, also played a leading role as a member of the 1994 constitutional conference which took place after the annulment of the June 12,1993,presidential election.

The elder statesman called on youths to imitate the political ideology of the late politician.

In his condolence message, Publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Ogun state Semiu Sodipo,an associate of the late politician described him as a political mobiliser who believed in the supremacy of the party.

Sodipo argued that, Abatans intention before his death was to see youths rule Nigeria.

“All of us here, we are his products. He was selfless an very rare person to come about. He was a partyman, party organiser who believed the party must take the right place. If we must imbibe his political ideals, that is the way to go,” Sodipo said.
