Ekiti to vaccinate over one million residents – Bisi Fayemi

A total number of 1,127,706 eligible persons would be vaccinated in all the 16 Local Government Areas of the state during the ongoing Yellow Fever Vaccination Campaign .
The Wife of the Governor of Ekiti State Erelu Bisi Fayemi stated this at the Flagg off ceremony of Yellow Fever Vaccination campaign held at Fajuyi Pavilion ,Ado-Ekiti.
Erelu Fayemi stated that the goal of the campaign was to vaccinate all eligible persons from age 9months to 44 years in the state.
"We are confident that if this target population is reached it will increase the herd immunity of the state population and prevent Yellow Fever outbreak". She noted.
The wife of the Governor disclosed that the Yellow Fever preventive mass Vaccination campaign would commence on 24th January through 2nd of February ,2020.
Mrs Fayemi who was represented at the occasion by the state commissioner for Health and Human services Dr.Mojisola Yahaya-Kolade appreciated health development partners such as WHO, UNICEF, AFENET, Gavi and NPHCDA as well as other partners for their support and tireless efforts especially in the reduction of morbidity and mortality of vaccines preventable diseases.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Chairman Ekiti State primary Healthcare Development Agency, Chief (Mrs) Monisola Oloro noted that the Vaccination became necessary in order to stop the spread of Yellow Fever in the state and safe guard the populace.
Mrs Oloro said that the state government had provided all required logistics and manpower to ensure the successful implementation of the campaign.
"I charged every individual, parents and caregivers to utilize this golden opportunity to protect themselves and their loved ones from this vaccines preventable diseases". She charged.
In her remarks, the World Health Organization (WHO) Coordinator in Ekiti state, Dr Kolude
disclosed that Ekiti state is the only state doing statewide campaign of this vaccines in Nigeria.
"Ekiti state is always at the forefront of good healthcare service delivery in Nigeria". She noted.
There were goodwill messages from NPHCDA, UNICEF Gavi, and other health development partners at the occasion.
