mothers in Ekiti state have been urged to make sure that their children and the children in their environment get immunized.

A member of the board of Ekiti State Primary Health Care Development Agency Dr Tunde Olujobi made this plea during an on the spot assessment of MPV2 survey in ikere Ekiti.

He described the exercise by the Federal government in conjunction with Development partners to double the immunization on measles as commendable saying most children after taking the measles immunization in nine months still come back with the disease.

The information officer to the health ministry,Abiodun Olofe quoted Dr. Olujobi reiterated some reasons behind the second dose of the measles immunization to include children having full immunity against measles among others.

Olujobi express his delight over the readiness of parents in Are Araromi community of Ikere Ekiti especially a woman with polio who kept the immunization card of her six month old child neat in readiness for the child to be immunized.

“We have been able to see fathers telling their wives willingly to take their children for immunization. One of the high point for me is the woman with polio that we saw and how she kept the card for the child. It shows she has learned from the mistakes that her parents made because it is obvious that her parents didn’t give her the OPV vaccine. This shows progress in Ekiti state and it is commendable”. He said.

He said the message and efforts to get children immunized should not be left for mothers alone, calling on father, traditional leaders and religious leaders to mobilize and corporate with the government and health workers to get rid of the preventable diseases describing immunization as a form of primary health care. Knowing fully well that preventive health care is cheaper than curative health care.

Olujobi later commended the level of diligence and dedication of health workers in Ekiti State, describing them as the best in Nigeria. He charged them to keep the flag flying and pledged that Dr. Kayode Fayemi led government would not relent in it’s efforts to give health workers the motivation they deserve to keep the good work going.
