Akpabio’s difficult choices

1075

1. Will he resign as Minister under the law to be eligible to contest election?

2. The Independent National Electoral Commission says only 19,455 voters were accredited in Essien Udim local government area during the last election.

3. Results obtained from the other nine local governments, excluding Essien Udim local government area show that Senator Chris Ekpenyong leads with 114, 973 votes while Akpabio has 76,917.

4. Going into the rerun, Akpabio is expected to register a minimum lead of 38,056 margin to upturn the election of Senator Chris Ekpenyong.

5. Akpabio’s local government is the smallest in the senatorial zone. He lost 9 out of ten local governments in February and if
only 19000 were accredited at that time it is going to be difficult to get up to that this time, yet he needs more than 38k votes. This reminds me of the Adamawa state governorship rerun. A needless exercise. It was obvious the challenger won’t be able to catch the frontrunner yet the court ordered a rerun.
