Chairman of South East Governors of David Umahi, gave reasons why he endorsed majority leader of the house of representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila as speaker of the lower legislative chamber in the 9th assembly.

Umahi said since the south-east does not enjoy a majority status in the legislature, it has to align with others to realise its goals.

The Governor Ebonyin endorsed Gbajabiamila when when he visited Ebonyin government house in Abakaliki accompanied by some lawmakers, including Abdulmumin Jibrin, spokesman of his campaign, Gbajabiamila visited Ebonyi to solicit the support of Umahi.

He said, “I can assure you that there’s little the (south-east) region can do but align with the majority but your consultation is welcoming because it shows that other parties have something to offer.

“People may want to ask what is in it for south-east in all of this because key leadership positions have eluded the region, but I believe if you can’t beat them, join them because we don’t have majority and there’s little we can do if we pull out.

“We need to realise that south-east is an integral part of this country and must be carried along. It takes two tango and we have a brighter future together.”
