The Senate on Wednesday rejected proposal to phase out the use of petrol cars and introduce electric cars in Nigeria by the year 2035.
Also, the bill that sought approval of Red chamber to open up the Nigerian citizenship to other Africans hit the rock in the chamber.
The rejected bills were differently sponsored by Senator Ben Murray-Bruce who told his fellow Senators that combustion cars were causing pollution and contribute to global warming and that developed countries were gradually phasing them out.

But, Rejecting the bill, Sen Jibrin Barau said there was no need to make any law compelling Nigerians to use electric cars at a particular period.
He added that in view of the economic strength of individual Nigerians, it would be unwise to come up with such legislation.
Opposing the bill, Deputy Senate President, Ike Elweremadu said that the passage of the bill into law would affect the nation’s economy since the country major source of income of the country is Crude Oil.
