Ambode, Pen Cinema/Iju Road failing

The only major road leading to Iju Ishaga, the water works town of Lagos State, is failing and failing. Except some urgent and drastic is done on it, the road will be completely impassable this forthcoming rainy season.

The long stretch of road was last attended to during the administrations of Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu and Babatunde Fashola (SAN). What looked like luck smiled on the road when Tinubu, towards the dying days of his eight-year tenure awarded the contract for the rehabilitation of the road to a local contractors, a job that was low in quality to mother roads in the state during the first tenure of Fashola. So give and take, the life span of the road is not less than 12 years. Unconfirmed rumour has it that Fashola refused to inaugurate the road because of the poor work done by the two contractors, one handled the Pen Cinema end to Jungle Bus Stop and the other from Jungle to Elliot Bus Stop, and will not want his name on the inauguration plaque.

Now the road which had been undulating since it was poorly completed has failed at the Jungle Bus stop area, directly opposite NNPC Filling Station on the ever-busy road.

Same for the only roundabout on College Bus Stop leading to the Ifako General Hospital, though, some workmen were seen last Friday trying to patch the gully like potholes on the road.
