Lagos police nab cultists initiating pupils

The Lagos State Police Command apprehended a cultist group who specialise in inducting primary and secondary school students into the AWAWA confraternity group, in Lagos.

Men of the Lagos State Police Command however nabbed two suspects and members of the syndicate who have already initiated 12 primary school pupils.

The pupils are said to be schooling at the Egan Primary and Secondary school near Igando, Lagos.

The minors are aged between eight and 16.

Security operatives are already investigsting the case at the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command.

Meanwhile, investigation revealed that the eldest of the victims and only female, is a Junior Secondary School 3 student who was first initiated into the so called AWAWA cult group.

The girl according to investigation was said to have lured others in Primary 2,3,4,5 and 6 respectively, to where they were initiated.

The cultists ran out of luck after the school’s Guardian/ Counselling teacher, out of curiosity, demanded to know how one of her students sustained a mark on her jaw.

The student however disclosed that it was an incision given to her during initiation.

Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, Imohimi Edgal, confirmed the incident saying, “The oldest among the children revealed that she took the rest of the children for initiation and that the symbol on their jaws is that of the notorious Awawa boys.

“Two adult suspects behind the initiation are already in Police custody and are helping police investigation, with a view to arresting other members of the Awawa group for prosecution.”
