Ogun: Baales, Community leaders for knowledge empowerment in conflict resolutions

Over 300 Baales and Community Leaders from many villages in the Ogun central are to be empowered with knowledge in land laws and conflict resolutions.

An NGO, the VillageNetwork, has designed the training programmes for the Baales and Community Leaders as a means to checkmate the incessant violence and communal clashes arising from land disputes in the area.

According to the convener of the training program, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye, Towulade Akinale, agreement has been firmed with Ogun State government to synergize with the NGO to give quality trainings for the participants in all extant laws on land matters.

The one-day training which is scheduled for Thursday January 31 at the Auditorium of Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, will feature lawyers specialised in land, property and estate management both in private practice and government employment. Special attention will also be given to the law enforcement agencies, particularly the Police and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence corp, all who are dramatis personae in intervention on land disputes in different communities at the workshop.

Specialists in conflict resolutions are also resource persons to talk at the workshop.
Oba Ogunleye, a public relations icon and a lawyer believe the training program will assist the participants to be conversant with all extant laws on land matters and thus help to minimise the crime related to land disputes.
