Yes, the boxing showpiece called the GOtv Boxing Nite sponsored by GOtv, have come and gone, but the participants, boxers and musicians, are still full of excitment over the outcome of the event held last Friday at the Tawafa Balewa Square (TBS) in Lagos and organised by Jenkins Alumuona led Flykite Productions.
Apart from the N3 million naira cash prize money, which was won by Rilwan ‘Real One’ Oladosu, the overall boxer for the night, musicians who took part in the event that was dubbed ‘boxing meets music’ are still counting their blessings in millions.
Investigations showed that the boxing event is gradually becoming the highest boxing and musical showpiece in Nigeria. Sources said that of particular interest is the pay purse of the musicians, all of whom got between N8 million to N2 million to perform their popular songs for less than 30 minutes at the show.
A breakdown of some of the musicians’ pay purse showed that high flying Burna Boy got a mouth watering N8 million while his dark google loving counterpart, Wande Cole, got for himself N4 million while others on the line up were paid as much as between N2 million to N1.8 million, thus also making it one of the highest paying concert of the year 2018 in Nigeria.
The source also said that the boxers who were the real reasons for the event were also hamsomely rewarded with the best boxer for the night, Oladosu, going home with N3 million, the first time in the history of boxing in Nigeria. Even fans were not left out of the generosity as over 20 decorders were won by them in a lucky dip contest.
All this we gathered is in line with Flykite Productions’ plan in bringing back the good oldays of boxing in Nigeria.
