The Osun State police command today announced the arrest of 16 persons of various ages while trying to violate electoral laws in the just concluded re run election.
The arrest of the suspects was contained in a press release by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Folasade Odoro,
He said that the police in its continue efforts to discharging its responsibilities of ensuring the peaceful conclusion of Osun 2018 Gubernatorial Election, that was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) swoop on the vehicle which was carrying the suspects while conducting stop and search duties at Orolu.
He said intercepted vehicles with sixteen persons on board was found to be in possession of customized INEC tags, face cap and jackets with the inscription of “INEC Osun 2018 Election Observer” and PDP membership cards.
According to the police spokesperson, “the suspects are using the items to have easy access to restricted areas meant for personnel with due accreditation.”
He also debunked the report that some accredited INEC Observers were arrested or denied access to polling units by the men of the police.
The PPRO assured the good people of Osun State and other critical stakeholders of its renewed commitment and resolve to ensure adequate security for a free and fair re-run election while investigation continues.
