Media NGO, International Press Centre (IPC), Lagos has called on the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to immediately investigate the alleged threat to the lives of three Adamawa State based journalists.
In a release signed by IPC’s Safety Desk Officer, Melody Akinjiyan on Friday, a report by Vanguard Newspaper of Friday, September 14, 2018 reported that, “Three journalists in Adamawa State have petitioned the Inspector General of Police, requesting for protection of their lives.”
The release stated the identity of the harassed journalists.
“The journalists are Adamawa State TVC correspondent, Adenusi Owolabi; The Punch correspondent, Hindi Livinus, and Sahara Reporters’ Phineas Padio,” it revealed.

According to the journalists, intelligence report at their disposal indicated that a squad consisting of security operatives and political thugs had been formed to either eliminate them or cause them grievous harm.
IPC Director, Mr. Lanre Arogundade in his comment said, “It is very necessary for the IGP to act fast on the petition as any delay could portend danger for the concerned journalists.”
Arogundade also enjoined the IGP to take measures to protect the journalists while the investigation lasts.
According to him, the protection of lives and properties remains the primary responsibility of the police.
