[3/6, 4:08 AM] Abatan: TRAGEDY: Father watch crocodile swallow up his eight-year-old son Despite the yeoman efforts of his father to rescue him, an eight-year-old boy was killed by a crocodile as he swam in a river in Indonesia’s East Kalimantan province, an official said on Friday. The boy and his little brother were swimming in the river while their father was watching near their house in Kutai Timur district on Wednesday when he was attacked and swallowed by a crocodile, said Oktavianto, an official at the local search and rescue agency. His father jumped to help him but the reptile escaped, Oktavianto said. “He chased the crocodile and hit it with bare hands but he couldn’t keep up,” he said. Locals caught the six-metre-long crocodile on Thursday and found the intact body of the boy inside it. A video posted on YouTube showed rescue workers pulling the body out of the crocodile’s stomach, with his family watching and weeping. The river is known to be a crocodile habitat, Oktavianto said, but added that locals still “went to the river often to bathe and get water for cooking.” Source Whirlwindnews.com.ng [3/6, 4:15 AM] Abatan: COVID-19: Abuja Doctor set record as first recepient of vaccine A frontline health worker at the National Hospital, Abuja Dr. Cyprian Ngong, became the first Nigerian to receive a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine procured by the Federal Government. He was among the first four officials at the hospital to receive the vaccine, which was announced by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 to be safe and efficacious. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the vaccine, after undergoing assessment by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDC), was confirmed to have positive results. Dr. Cyprian Ngon, the Family Physician, National Hospital, Abuja, was the first person to receive the COVID-19 vaccine immunisation, while the second person was Dr. Tahir Yunusa, a Pathologist with University of Abuja Teaching Hospital. Ngon had been the Head of the COVID-19 Isolation Centre at National Hospital Abuja since February 2020 when the virus was first detected in Nigeria. The third person was Dr. Nuru Samudeen, National Hospital Abuja Family Physician at the Accident and Emergency unit. The country was now set to go ahead and use the 3.924 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine which arrived the country on March 2 through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. Meanwhile, the Federal Government had launched a website where Nigerians could log on and register for the vaccination. Government, therefore, advised citizens to log on to the website on NPHCDC website. The healthcare development agency said that “to register for the COVID-19 vaccination, visit our website — nphcda.gov.ng — and click on ‘COVID-19 vaccination e-registration.”
