All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has given a suspended APC member Abayomi Hunye and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello, 24 hours to provide evidence for their claims that he is an indigene of Ekiti State or face legal action.Download Interactive Maps
Yayi, who represents Ogun West in the Senate, issued the ultimatum in a statement by his media adviser Kayode Odunaro on Tuesday.
According to the statement, Hunye and Marcus-Bello made the claims during separate interviews on Channels Television programmes.
Yayi described the claims as false and libellous and challenged both individuals to provide evidence of his state of origin.
“I watched in utter disbelief as these characters that I hardly know utter assertive and outrageous lies about my origin without any proof,” he said.
Yayi alleged that one of the individuals claimed on television that he was from Ekiti State but could not identify where in the state he originated from when asked.
He also accused the other of making claims about the locations of his parents’ graves in an attempt to support the allegation about his origin.
“Enough is enough. They should produce their evidence in 24 hours or be ready for my lawsuits,” the senator said.
The statement said similar claims about Yayi’s origin had previously been used during political campaigns against his emergence as the senator representing Ogun West.Design Campaign Signs
It added that the claims had resurfaced ahead of the 2027 Ogun governorship election.

The development comes after traditional leaders in Kemta, Ogun State, affirmed Yayi’s ancestral ties to the community.
The Oluwo of Kemta and Baaye of Egbaland Abayomi Rotimi made the declaration at a press conference at the Ile Ogboni of Kemta.
Mr Rotimi said Yayi remained a son of the community regardless of political differences among residents.
He also dismissed reports that the Ile Ogboni of Kemta had been shut because of Yayi’s relationship with the community, describing the reports as false.
